Winter Camping in the Alabama Hills, Lone Pine, California
Hello Steemers! I wanted to share a few pictures from a road trip I just got back from with @joleenwillis. Check out her write up and photos, much better than mine! We had been talking about checking this place out for sometime, so when she told me she wanted to do a photo shoot at the Alabama Hills, I packed a bag and we hit the road. Since it's winter, and the mountain passes aren't open, we had to go south to get to the eastside of the sierras, taking us about 12 hours with stops and a breakdown! But we made it, pulling into the boulder strewn Alabama Hills late into the night, excited to go to sleep so we could wake up and see it all for the first time in the morning. It didn't disappoint, this place was amazing! I could see why so many movies were filmed here.
I was wandering around the boulders, picking up trash, when I spotted this heart shaped cactus. I tried to get both dogs to sit for a photo, but that was too much to ask, but at least I got Joleen's dog Lunchbox to pose for a few with Mt. Whitney in the background.
With the miles of open space and the countless interesting boulders, this place felt like another planet! You could spend weeks exploring this place and all it has to offer--I jokingly told Joleen that I was going to climb every rock there!
So many cool things to see here--from different types of cactus and plants, to cavities, holes, caves, and arches in the boulders! Although it was probably the coldest I've ever been on a camping trip, with intense bone chilling wind, it was a great trip! I highly recommend visiting the Alabama Hills!
