Weekend Camping--Eastern Sierras

in #nature6 years ago (edited)

Good Monday morning Steem! My post today is about a short camping trip @joleenwillis and I took over our local mountain pass. We got the news that Sonora Pass was opening early this year--a good 2 months ahead of last years opening--so we planned to make a short trip to the east side of the sierras. Joleen has a Volkswagen camper van, so it's pretty easy to just throw a few things in it and go--mostly snacks, having a fridge in the van is awesome!

As we reached the pass, there was a pretty good amount of snow at the highest elevations--9000 feet--and there were a lot of people skiing and snowmobiling. We let the dogs run around in the snow for a bit, but decided to head down the other side of the pass, towards the small town of Bridgeport, and a hot spring.

We arrived at Buckeye hot spring and were quickly disappointed--it was packed with people! After driving around the area looking for somewhere private to camp, we decided to go somewhere different. On the way up the road to the hot spring I noticed a little road down in the valley that looked like it might have some nice camp spots next to the river.

It was the perfect spot--soft green grass, big vanilla smelling Jeffery pines, a mellow creek, and a nice fire pit with a stack of wood! And the best part--no people around! As we got situated I snapped a pic of Joleen snapping a pic, the only way I can get a picture of her!
