Lucky Jackal

in #nature7 years ago

Despite the fact that the 'whole circle of life / eat or be eaten' concept comes across as harsh, but at the end of the day that is life, and when something is killed for food in the wild, it is sure to say that nothing goes to waste.

Here we see some jackal making the most of a left over zebra carcass.

The jackal is way too small and unskilled to be able to kill a zebra for itself, they would normally hunt much smaller pray such as rabbits or fowl.

The one skill however that the Jackal does have lies within its opportunistic nature, these little creatures will hardly let an easy meal such as this left over zebra pass them by.

This is not their primal meal ticket, and that is a good thing, because the scavenger world is a very competitive one in the African bush-veld, and the jackal would have to compete against other animal such as vultures and hyenas - a fight that the jackal will be sure to loose.

This time though, the jackal got lucky, and made it to the zebra buffet in time to grab a meal before the other scavengers show up
