EFAF Programme.
These are some pictures of mine taken years ago while visiting the EFAF program in Limpopo.
The EFAF - Elephants for Africa Forever is a cause thats primary function is rescuing orphaned baby elephants and giving them a chance at a full life by means of training them over years to become working elephants in the tourism sector.
Once trained these elephants will take tourist and safari enthusiast on elephant-back safari trails.
Orphaned elephants are quite common in South Africa due to the very high rate of pouching and culling. and a baby elephant without the proper guidance and emotional support can very easily end up as a renegade or rogue that could be very dangerous to itself and all that it encounters, often ending up with the necessity to have the animal put down.
EFAF allows for human interaction with elephants and as I always say, conservation starts with education. And what better way of educating mankind than giving them a firs hand experience at getting to know these animals and their mannerisms through first hand exposure.
I am normally the first to insist that wild animals deserve to stay in the wild, however in this case the captive yet free nature that this program supplies to these elephants whom would under any other circumstances face a sure death, definitely proves the exception to the rule.
EFAF has since moved out of Limpopo South Africa in order to attain a bigger support group. And to the best of my knowledge is still going from strength to strength!
