If you're food doesn't fight you back it's probably going to kill you....Invasive Species. Pt. 2steemCreated with Sketch.

Only the strongest survive.

In the plant world you measure for survival success is your spread of the land and your access to the sunlight.

No 'class' of plant does this better than what we unfairly lump under the umbrella of 'WEEDS'.

Those pesky SOB's are everywhere. I remember hunting them out with an elaborate scheme to eventually wipe their monstrous population out of our front yard.

While I was punting the heads of dandelions and snatching lamb's quarter out of the ground I should have been munching on them!

My folks knew little to nothing about nutritious so it would have helped out my younger malnourished self out quite a bit. Imagine I could have avoided the onslaught of zits in High School and chronic constipation that I didn't know was unnatural until my mid-20's

Many of the species we labelweeds are simply the best in class at survival.

My top 5 'Weeds' include

  1. Mint - Detoxifying, cleansing, their invasive nature is great to clean up the soil when planting a garden but be careful lest they start to run the show.

  2. Dandelion - Man, no one growing up poor should complain about being malnourished. These guys are EVERYWHERE. Also, one of the most nutritious greens you can consume. Make a tea out of it to clear any constipated pipes. Very powerful though so use sparingly.

  3. Micro-Shiso - The slight sting to it's flavour kills most of it natural predators. Luckily us humans are pretty huge in comparison so it only has a Hermetic effect on us.

  4. Lamb's Quarter - Hands down the underdog of greens...More nutritionally dense than Kale, spinach, chard, etc and it grows like friggin' wild fire. MUST CONSUME.

  5. Purslane - Similar to dandelion. Has a thick, juicy texture that makes it a great rue agent for soups. Also happens to have Omega 3's. Very important for Vegans who would otherwise likely be deficient.

Have respect for your local 'Weeds'. They'd kill you if they had the chance...instead their deadly ways merely induce a Hermetic effect which keeps our bodies running like the miraculous marvelous machines that they are.

This is really interesting. I don't think I'm going to be looking in my yard for dinner any time soon though.

This post is more to open up your perspective and remove the separation people feel between their nutrition and the world around them.

Be on the look out for the name of one of these 'weeds' next time you do some fine dining. I'm sure you'll recognize a name or two sprinkled throughout your 20 dollar entree.

Robertbilling - Dandelions are not Native to North America. Europeans PLANTED them here so they can have dandelion tea and salad... Sad that you think them lesser plants .
