Intense earthquake tremors were felt across Pakistan and the region on Wednesday.

The 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck at a depth of 178km in the Badakhshan province of Afghanistan in the Hindukush region, according to the US Geological Survey.

Speaking to Geo News, National Seismic Monitoring Centre Director Zahid Rafi said that Pakistan experienced two earthquakes today.

“The first earthquake of 4.9 magnitude struck Balochistan’s Bela town at 10am,” he said, adding that “the second earthquake’s tremors were felt in Pakistan at 12:07pm.”

Meanwhile, Met Dept DG Ghulam Rasool said the Balochistan earthquake struck at a depth of 29km.

He added that the Afghanistan earthquake measured at 6.2.

Tremors were also felt in various towns of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Islamabad, as well as in Afghanistan and India.

In Bela town of Lasbela, a minor girl was reported killed and 10 injured as the roof of a house collapsed, according to police and hospital officials. Those casualties were likely caused by the earthquake which struck Balochistan around 10am.
