In this ecosystem, trees and forest reign. Plants cover the ground and there are several freshwater mirrors around. This is the habitat in which some of the animal species that live in the forest develop. In this text, we are going to talk about the most prominent ones.

What are the animals that live in the forest?
Depending on the height and type of vegetation, a forested or wooded surface can house different species. Next, let's talk about some interesting animals that live here:

1-Raccoon

They are also known as laundry rats, and are originally from America. They measure about 50 centimeters and their coat is usually gray on the back, white on the legs and with stripes on the tail. It looks like they're wearing glasses because of the dark spots around their eyes. This mammal lives near the rivers and uses its dexterity with its front legs to eat frogs and fruits.

2-Spider monkey

Among the species of monkeys, it is worth mentioning that this is very intelligent, and in addition is among the most acrobatic in the world. It uses its tail as if it were one more member to be able to balance itself from tree to tree. Due to the destruction of forests, it is among the species in danger of extinction.

3-Woodpecker

It is known for its red head and its ability to bite logs for insects, larvae and worms. Some are sedentary and others migrate according to the region where they live and, in addition, they stay in the nest in cavities they excavated in the trees.

Regarding the reproduction of the woodpecker, it should be noted that the eggs are incubated for two weeks, while the chicks generated take another month to leave the nest.

4- Lynx

The lynx is also known as Boreal, Eurasian, European or, just, as common lynx. It is a medium-sized cat that is camping in European and Siberian forests.

With a fleshy body, a short tail and a brown or yellowish coat, the lynx is an excellent climber and jumper. The mating season takes place between January and March, and the males also take care of the young.

5-Hart

With thin legs, large necks and spotted fur, deer or deer are another of the typical animals that live in the forest. They have horns that form at the top of the skull and, in the deer family, the moose is the largest of all. All are herbivores and can consume from aquatic plants to the bush and leaves of the trees.

6-grizzly bear

Its natural habitat is the forests of North America, Asia and Europe. Life expectancy is around 30 years and its coat can be dark brown or light golden.

It can stand up with its hind legs, and it is guided by smell and hearing. For food, it is classified as omnivorous. In winter, hibernates in dens. The teddy bears live with their mother for a year and a half.

7-Jaguar

This beautiful feline, also known as the jaguar, inhabits the forests of America and looks like a leopard. Of a solitary character, the jaguar hunts by ambushing and its bite is more powerful than that of any other predator, as it can even pierce turtle shells.

Regarding their reproduction, the jaguars mate during the whole year, but it is necessary to emphasize that the births happen in greater quantity during the rainy seasons.

8-Owl

The owl uses trees as a home for most of its existence. This large bird, whose life expectancy is 60 years, can reach 75 centimeters in height and 1.7 meters in wingspan when it spreads its wings.

It has nocturnal habits and its howling can be heard from two kilometers away. On the other hand, they live alone until the mating season, when the female lays up to six eggs and incubates them in the tree trunks, while the male seeks food: rodents, rabbits, squirrels, doves, rats, etc. This whole process lasts 36 days.

9-Fox

The last of the list of animals that live in the forest is represented by 27 species, although the most popular is the red fox, which lives in North America and Europe. It is silent, cautious and nocturnal, and during the day it rests in its den. He does not have facial muscles to show his teeth, as his “cousin”, the dog, does.
