Would You Swim In An Organic Pool?

in #nature7 years ago (edited)

I came across this concept on Youtube. Being in the construction field, I'm surprised I had never heard of it. If you can get over the fact that you might be swimming with tadpoles and other creatures, I really don't see any downside to it. It's cheaper to construct, cheaper to operate, almost no maintenance, and it makes your backyard look like an oasis. I can't wait until I have a place with a backyard so I can build one of these!

How It Works

The nutrient level in an organic pool is carefully restricted so competition for the limiting nutrient (usually phosphorous) is fierce. In these circumstances, pond plants outperform algae, keeping it suppressed and barely hanging in at the margins. A pond, low in nutrients, is a healthy environment for wildlife. An organic pool is teeming with life. If an alien micro-organism, a human pathogen for instance, enters the water, it faces battalions of hungry pond dwelling micro-organisms to either starve it out of existence, or devour it. A water analysis of this pond water showed that it contained zero organisms of e coli per liter of water.

The Plunge Pool

The plunge pool an organic pool (natural swimming pool), only smaller. This one is small enough to fit in almost any backyard or garden. It's great for the kids and even adults that want to have a place to cool off.

What a great idea. Much more healthy for the children too!
