The green Iguanas

The problem with iguanas, a species in danger of extinction, is not only the stalking to which they are subjected, but also the cruelty they must experience. In order to access their eggs, the desired food, the hunters practice rudimentarily the closest thing to a cesarean.

Iguanas live in areas of thick vegetation and in height (mangroves, forests, grasslands, riverbanks, acahuales ...), where the annual average temperature is 27-28 ° C and the humidity is higher than 70%. They are mainly arboreal animals, that is, they spend most of their time in the trees, and they do so thanks to their strong claws and long tail.

The iguanas are quite solitary animals and only live in community during the period of heat and reproduction, during which they gather in groups of about 5 to 8 members, formed by a dominant male, several females, and young specimens. As we see, a hierarchy is formed in which the dominant male has greater privileges (over females, place to sunbathe, etc). They tend to be always alert helping one another in the difficult task of continuous surveillance. Its main enemies (besides man) are felines, snakes and birds of prey (the carrot that feeds on young, the badger, the raccoon that destroys its nests to feed on eggs, boa, even domestic cats and dogs ).

The young iguanas prefer to stand at a low-medium height of the forest where the heat is not so stifling and the humidity is higher. On the contrary, adult iguanas tend to occupy the tall tops of trees where the sun gives more intensity and where humidity is lower.
