In volcanology, a lava dome or a volcanic dome is a bulge of rough-shaped bulges caused by the rapid release of thick lava from the volcano.
Geochemical lava domes can change from basal to rhyolite although most preserved domes tend to have high silica content.
This is also one of my interests. Volcanoes are very dangerous and can cause century long crop failures if a supervolcano of significant size erupts. Hopefully not soon.
