A vast, arid wasteland of ever-shifting sand hills, the Great Victoria Desert of south-west Australia has a little vegetation other than spinifex grass. The desert lies between Gibson Desert in the north and the Nullarbor Plain to the south. It extends eastwards from Kalgoorlie almost as far as the Stuart range. Much of the Great Victoria's eastern extremity is Aboriginal territory.
