The garden continues to return to life.

After a really warm start to April the weather turned cooler for the rest of the month and chances to keep working tidying up the garden stopped. That didn't mean the plants would stop growing though.

With the sun out today but a cool wind I ventured up the garden to see how things were going. Around the pond the plants that died off last autumn are growing in fast, especially the ferns that are racing to uncurl their leaves.

Thanks for taking a look, hopefully the weather will warm up so I get a chance to keep on top of things.

Nice tranquil looking spot.

It is on warm day, we get lots of birds in too so we sit and listen to them singing.

I envy that pond! Landscape ponds are so nice to have, especially in a cool, shaded location. Our spring has been the same way - March and early April were really warm. We could open all the windows in the house. Toward the end of April the temperatures dropped, and I am burning wood to heat the house on a daily basis.

The aim is to get the pond cleaned out this summer as there is alot of rotting leaves in there. Once done i want a new pump for the waterfall as nothing beats the sound of running water to add to the bird song on a warm day. Just hoping the weather starts to warm up soon.

I dug our little pond out last spring with a rented excavator. I just need to get a liner that doesn't leak so it will actually stay full. This picture is actually a small pond I dug out on our rural property with the same machine. The one I dug here in town is a little smaller, but it was seven feet deep at first, until I backfilled it a little with concrete.

Wish I'd had an excavator, I dug ours out with a spade then put down a couple of layers of plastic before putting in the pond liner.
