The Priory Gate.

in #nature8 years ago

The Priory Gate, one of the entrances to Cathedral Close in Winchester was built in the late 15th-century.
The two massive iron-studded oak gates once gave access to the ‘working’ courtyard of the medieval priory, including a guest-house and stabling for visitors. It’s still closed up every evening. The gate is topped by a tiny room, originally part of the organist’s house. Recently used as a location in The Crown, during the summer is covered in flowering Wisteria. . image
