Worlds Deadliest: Snake, Freshwater Fish, Saltwater Fish, and Even Snail

in #nature7 years ago

This post will be describing, and giving a few facts on 4 different worlds deadliest creatures, we will start off with the worlds deadliest snake.

Worlds Deadliest: Snake
Black Mamba.jpg
That is a black mamba, and is widely considered the deadliest snake in the world, and for good reason. It can reach up to 14 feet in length, but it will usually "only" grow to 8.2 feet, still making it the second longest venomous snake in the world, behind the king cobra. It is also the fastest land snake in the world, reaching speeds of over 12 miles per hour.
If you are bitten the venom is estimated to be able to kill a human in under 30 minutes, and with the black mamba being found primarily in the savannas and rocky hills of eastern and southern Africa, you probably won't be close enough hospital for treatment if do get bit.

Worlds Deadliest: Freshwater Fish
Goliath Tigerfish.jpg
That killing machine above these words I hope you are reading is called a goliath tigerfish. Coming in at around 4.9 feet and 110 pounds (the largest one ever recorded was 5 feet long, and weighed 154 pounds), with 32 2 inch teeth. As for this fish's diet, it will eat any fish it can overpower, which includes smaller goliath tigerfish, and it is also said that this fish hunts crocodiles. It has a streamlined, torpedo shaped body that it can propel through the water at extremely fast speeds (I couldn't find the actual speed it can swim). It is mainly found in the Congo, and is considered the best, and most dangerous, game fish in all of Africa.

Worlds Deadliest: Saltwater Fish
Box Jellyfish.jpg
I'm sure at least a couple of you are surprised to see a picture of a jellyfish species, instead of something along the lines of this-->Great White.jpg
But when you look at the facts, it can be quite...surprising. An average of around 19 shark attacks annually, with a fatal incident every 2 or so years, and that is from all species of shark in the world, but this one species of box jellyfish, also known as the sea wasp, is responsible for around 20-40 deaths a annually, just the one species. The sea wasp is mainly found in Australia. In my opinion this is one of the deadliest animals on the planet, and that is because, if you are stung it has been known for sea wasps to kill a person in under 3 minutes. Let me repeat, you literally have around 180 seconds before you are dead.

Worlds Deadliest: Snail
That's right, the moment you've probably not been waiting for, the worlds deadliest snail, and without further adieu, here it is!
Cone Snail.jpg
That's right, this thing can kill a human! Cone snails use a radula tooth as a harpoon-like structure for predation. Each of these harpoons is a modified tooth, primarily made of chitin and formed inside the mouth of the snail, in a structure known as the toxoglossan radula. (The radula in most gastropods has rows of many small teeth, and is used for grasping at food and scraping it into the mouth.) Each specialized cone snail tooth is stored in the radula sac (an everted pocket in the posterior wall of the buccal cavity), except the tooth that is currently ready to be used. The radular-tooth structures differ slightly according to the feeding mode of vermivorous, molluscivorous and piscivorous species.
