Perhaps if there is a reliable way to ID the businesses and entities that have benefited (that is, are using) the land exposed by deliberate deforestation, we could target them with sanctions and boycotts. If it becomes economic or political suicide to be associated with the practice, perhaps it would curtail further attempts.
