very interesting article, upvoted and resteemed.
I had to keep myself busy with how to defend against mosquitoes, too.
What you write is very inspiring.
I have some more questions in regards to the mosquito zapper. The scientific knowledge seems to be, that mosquitoes or not attracted by UV light and hence zippers would be useless. However given the fact that it works for flies and everything lese flying around I wonder - given the same gene pool that mosquitoes and flies should have - if it really doesn't wok. So my experience is pretty bad.. I was not to successful with UV lightes zippers. You seem to be more successful? What worked was hunting them with tennis bat like battery powered zippers and surprising them in little waterholes, sinks, etc. nearby the house and killing docents of them in seconds and by night in house using the sam bat and a flashlight light to AAA them.. ;-)

In a small darkened room (bedroom) they're effective... in a more well lit space, not so much. Our thai house is datk solid teakwood (wall, floor, ceiling) & so very effective in dark corners. Def when you empty out 50 frazzled mozzies most days it speaks more than the science that says it doesnt work. 🤣 northern Thailand monsoon we have mosquitoes in plague proportions.

Awesome informative write up with very practical tips.
I really enjoyed to read and noted the fact that dragonflies eat about 1000 mosquitoes a day and lotus ponds attract them. Great info!

Sending some UpFundMe love for you. !UFM 10

I'm super interested in UFM since I have a social enterprise project with Burmese refugee community 90% ready to go. It's later here in Thailand but I will be checking it out tomorrow. Much appreciated.

I'm gobsmacked! I had no idea that the coils weren't safe. Luckily we've only ever used them outside, under a fairly open veranda and not very often. It's more effective to come inside at mosquito time and luckily we don't get dengue fever here. Our peppermint had been growing nicely this last year and that's not far from the back door. Now I think of it, we had less problems with them last summer. Hubby will be glad to hear about it being a repellant.

If this post helped one person stop using the toxic, nasty coils, then it has been time very well spent. Grow more aromatic plants & everything thrives, plus a water garden with larvae eating fish to bring dragonflies. ✔

Im off to check out your front end. Nothing on your steem account yet? Just a simple who-what-why-how post would be awesome.

Mmm ! Nice job! I always hates those things and move them far Way if im eating near one.. i get bitten all the time, its not so bad.. still alive! If im smart ill slap some Pure thai naturals mosquito spray on my ankles And wrists... . It does the job for me!

Loving that you appreciate & use a quality product. 😍🤣

excellent post, and good reading! there are not so many mosquitos here, but at certain locations (with still water) and if the weather conditions were humid -- they can became a big problem...

Thank you... glad you found it useful. 😊

What about those DIY coils you made from mosquito repellant plants for example?

Without an oil or resin they dont burn well, & the PM 2.5 byproduct of the combustion itself is harmful to your lungs.

I use Neem oil with coconut oil, that works fine. Also, sometimes lotion type repellents are available on the market.

Neem oil is great but most people dislike the smell on its own. The lotions? No!! Serious endocrine disruptive chemicals in there... not recommended.

There is a lot of intensive farming around us I suppose that due to the insecticides the number of insects in general has decreased very much.
Actually this is very sad because every species has its task in nature.
It is very noticeable that in the last 5-10 years the mosquitoes have decreased so much that you hardly have to go on a mosquito hunt in the evening or at night.
Unfortunately this is also a sad development.

That's terrible!! Cant imagine what chemicals you are breathing & absorbing if the bugs are dying. Time to move!!

good info, the last little mention about the mosquito net could be up in capitals at the beginning, i mostly buy net by running meter to create huge constructions around the living spaces

For the net akone to be effective it has to be uber fine, which makes it really HOT inside & then means you need a fan inside too. The fan alone gets rid of them if used well, so all that netting not really needed at all. 😊
