NM Wisdom Challenge : Healthy Life to Avoid or Postpone Death?

"Do we live a healthy life to avoid or postpone death?"


I do not think that living a healthy life could avoid or prolong death.

  • No one can defeat death except JESUS.
    All of us has to die one day, it could be due to sickness, natural process, accident or suicide. By the time we are dead, our body is dead too. Obviously, our body is just a temporary place when we are alive. Therefore, even we live a healthy life, that does not mean that we can escape from death. For me, death is the human life process.

  • Could we postpone death by living healthily?
    This is a Yes and No answer. Life is full of uncertainty, we might leave this world at any time and at the most unexpected time. We could not control our time to leave this world. However, living a healthy life can postpone death by natural causes because we can avoid sickness by living healthily.

A healthy lifestyle - Eat, Sleep and Exercise..


When we talk about a healthy lifestyle, it's a very wide topic which covers food, sleeping habit, exercise and many more. I think we all know what is the do and don't to lead a healthy lifestyle.

For eating itself, it is a limitless topic to discuss. We should eat more fresh vegetables and fruits, less carbohydrate, less oil, less salty, less sweet and less chemical stuff. Take nuts as your snacks. Eat organic food. No trans fat and processed food. Most importantly, we do not sacrifice the enjoyment of eating even we decide to live healthily.

We are encouraged to exercise 3 times per week, or at least walk 30minutes per day to promote blood circulation. A sedentary lifestyle is definitely not healthy and it promotes our belly fat. Not only this, sleep for minimum of 7-8 hours per day is recommended, but it varies due to the sleeping behavior of an individual. For me, these are standard and typical guidelines that we could find anywhere.

How about mental health?

On top of the abovementioned, I personally think mental health is the most alarming issue because it's hard to notice and easier to ignore. When we talk about a healthy lifestyle, it is not only limited to the food, exercise, and sleeping, mental health shall be included.

If you really look into this younger generation issues, there are a lot of cases whereby teenager committed suicide because of failure in relationship or exam. Normally, there are some signals before a tragedy happens, they will approach their close friends and talk about their concerns. They will only reach to the extreme level if they could not get comfort and assistance from their family and friends. Not only this, there are more and more teenagers are diagnosed with depression, anxiety and relevant mental health issues. Some of them need to take medicine to control their emotion and thoughts.

This group of the people is generally more sensitive and fragile. They have difficulties to speak it out to others about their problems. They have lower stress-resistant, they prone to negative thoughts easily if they got fail everytime after trying. They tend to escape from the problems by jumping off the building :'(.

Therefore, I certainly think that mental health is the major issue to have a healthy life because it could not be noticed easily and hard to diagnose. And we could do something about it as a friend and family by being more observant and showing more love and care to them.

Live a healthy life to enjoy life.


As a conclusion, a healthy life is the key to enjoy our life to the maximum because we only live once. I am sure that we could neither avoid nor prolong death by living a healthy life. However, healthy life is still very important, so that we are less susceptible to sickness, hence we have more energy and time to enjoy our life with friends and family. We could do many things such as travel, eating delicious food, exercising with our loved one. Anyway, there are many reasons to live a healthier life, it could be - be an inspirer who impacts someone else's life, or it could be anything that which is meaningful.

Undeniably, health is something you could not buy with money. Once you lost it, you lost it.

As long as we are healthy, we are alive, then there is hope.^^
