hello steemians today im going to share one of the most popular myths and legends in the philippines, titled the legend of mimosa (makahiya)'

a long time ago,there lived a couple in barangay masagana who wanted to have a daughter, thier wish was granded and they gave birth to a baby girl,, they called the baby girl maria, when maria grow younger she is so beautiful but she wouldnt go outside of thier house beacause shes shy.

a weeks later the spaniards came to thier home town and thier were very cruel and they get anything they wanted to people in town. spaniards knock on doors and kill people who gets on thier way, and refuses to give them what they wanted..

the couples was so scared to lose thier only one child maria sothey hide maria from the bushes so the spaniards could not see her.

after the spaniards left thier town the couple try to look thier daughter maria but they coulnt see her, even on the bushes where they hide her.. instead they saw a small plant that so sensitive. when you touch the plant it would immediately close..

they couldnt find thier daugter, only plant they saw on the bushes, so they taught it was thier daughter maria. they named the plant 'makahiya' meaning (touch me not). like thier daughter whos very shy...
