MYTHOLOGY OF BALDER
Baldur or Balder is one of the gods that appeared in the game God of War. This one god is told very much wants to subdue Kratos, even he dared to force Kratos to fight. In this game Balder has no pain and that's what makes it last long from the onslaught of Kratos. In Nordic mythology, Balder is the God of peace, beauty, joy, and purity in Nordic Mythology.
Born as an Asgardian, Balder was one of Odin's many sons. He is the brothers and half-brothers of some gods like Tyr, Vidar, Thor, Hermod, and has a foster brother who seems to be a thorn in the flesh of everyone, Loki the Asgardian God of Mischief and Evil. Balder is also one of Odin's staunchest warriors, who have repeatedly proved his bravery in the battlefield, earning him the respect of most of the inhabitants of the Golden Realm of Asgard.
Balder is highly respected for his great fighting ability using a variety of weapons, especially swords. He is also a strategist and adept at riding. However, although he is often known as a formidable fighter, in essence, Balder still has a gentle heart, who loves all creatures in nature to even the weakest birds.
There is even a story that says that Balder had deliberately made himself fallen to the ground while doing combat duel training just because he did not want to step on a small caterpillar who happened to pass. It is upon this nature that Odin, his father, then declares that the brave of the Asgardians is also the softest - and he is Balder.
There is a prophecy that says that Balder's death will trigger Ragnarok. The great war that will be Asgard's destiny and end everything. In addition to the courage possessed by Balder, to prevent Ragnarok, Odin one day endowed his son as a force that made him immune to any weapon attack.
However, the gift of Odin is not without defects. The power of the mistletoe stems missed the All-Father's thought, and the tiny plant eventually became a potential weapon to defeat Balder. This knowledge was once used by Loki when the bad guy wanted to bring down the God of Light.
Although basically Balder's body was immune and almost impossible to kill, but death finally came to him. When Loki manages to duplicate Thor's weapons and together his allies invade Asgard, Balder dies while trying to defend Valhalla's castle. Balder's death was then triggered Ragnarok, along with continued attack after attack by Loki to the next part of the world.
After Ragnarok ended, and after his resurrection, Balder was later entrusted to occupy Asgard's throne to replace the dead Odin and also Thor who was being banished and excommunicated for killing Bor, Odin's father and grandfather.
Although he feels that his leadership will not run smoothly after some bad events happen, but, encouragement and support from Thor himself and then managed to convince him to remain as supreme leader of the Asgardians.
So whether the death of balder in god of war 4 will refer to ragnarok in the next series of god of war, will kratos participate in the battle determine the fate of Asgard, who knows it's just my thought (I hope so).
