Icarus and Daedalus
In Greek mythology, Icarus was the son of a skilled craftsman named Daedalus. Daedalus is well known throughout Greece as a great artist and architect. People from all over visit Daedalus' workplace in Athens to ask him for help in designing something interesting and creating amazing discoveries.
Nothing could match the genius of Daedalus's new idea until one of his apprentices, his nephew Talos, began to amaze people with his talent. Daedalus should be proud of his students, but he is not proud. She was very jealous. Unmercifully, he persuades his rivals to rise to the roof of a large temple, then push him to death.
The court of Athens drove the great inventor out of the city forever. Daedalus went to Crete, led by the great King Minos. Daedalus knew Minos would love to have a famous inventor in his kingdom, and would pay him handsomely for his expertise. One of the first tasks that King Minos had asked Daedalus to do was to make a place for the immense creatures. Half-human half-bull creature is called Minotour.
Daedalus creates an underground labyrinth with alleyways and crosses that cross each other and circle to a dead end. Minotour was left alive in that place. Every year, King Minos feeds the monster by forcing a group of young men and women into the labyrinth of Athena and leaving them to be hunted and devoured.
Daedalus's life has grown ever since. He fell in love with the court lords and was very happy when one year later his ladies gave birth to a son named Icarus. Finally, Daedalus was happy and content.
Daedalus began to make a very large wing model for himself and his son. He collected a pouch full of feathers and taped it with a candle. The work is long and tiring. But finally after examining the wing carefully, he told his son that the wing was ready for use. He tied a pair of wings to his son and another pair to him. Then the courageous couple prepared to jump from the high cliffs.
Icarus cheered and stared with pleasure. He was so happy he forgot his father's warning. He flew high up and hovered in the heat of the Sun. Then his joy turned into pain when the burning candle began to drip on his hand. "Please, Father!" She yelled, realizing what had happened. "My wings are melting."
At that time the voice of Stephen Hawking became obscure so that only those who knew him knew it well. In 1985, Hawking was sentenced to pneumonia and a tracheostomy had to be done so he could not speak at all. Later, there was a Cambridge scientist making tools that could make Hawking write what he wanted to say on a computer, then be pronounced through a 'voice synthesizer'. This tool has been used by Stephen Hawking all his life and is constantly updated by Intel companies.
Daedalus was frightened, but there was nothing he could do. He watched helplessly as his son slid out of the sky and splashed into the sea, thrashing, gasping and sinking. Daedalus was struck to see his son's death continue to fly to Sicily and live in the area of Cocalus and settled in a place called Camicus.
God punished the great inventor for killing his nephew. And although the expert artist survived, he lived the rest of his life with untreated grief. The sea where Icarus collapsed was later named the Icarian Sea (Icarian Sea), an island southwest of Samos. In some stories it is told that Hercules, who happened to pass by found the body of Icarus and buried it.
