American movie star Elizabeth Taylor portrays Cleopatra on the Hollywood screen

For hundreds of years, the love tragedy of Anthony and Cleopatra has captured the imagination of the world. Lost to the old rival Octavian in the final battle in Port Alexandra. Anthony was miserable and ashamed, and when he heard the (fake) news that his lover Cleopatra had died, he aimed Jianfeng at himself.

However, Cleopatra was not dead. After hearing that Octavian had won, she hid in her grave. Anthony was carried back, seriously injured, and died in the arms of his lover.

In order not to fall under the rule of the Romans, on August 12, 30 BC, Cleopatra committed suicide-and died after being bitten by a poisonous snake. At that time, she was only 39 years old, and she was surrounded by beloved pearls, gold, silver and countless treasures.

Cleopatra's body was made into a mummy and buried with Anthony.

One thousand six hundred years later, Shakespeare sighed in his works, "No tomb in the world is as famous as this one."

Where exactly Cleopatra was buried has always been fascinating. If her mausoleum is as grand as the Romans described it, then it must have left a mark in the history of Port Alexandra.

However, no one has ever found the site of the tomb. Alexandra and the surrounding area attract less attention than other older sites on the banks of the Nile, and archaeological excavations within the city are also difficult. Now most of the ancient city has been submerged under water about 20 feet deep.

There seems to be a breakthrough in 2006. At that time, Zahi Hawass, secretary-general of the Iranian High Commission for Antiquities, announced that Cleopatra's tomb had been found! The location is in the ruins of the Temple of Osiris, not far from Taposiris Magna, about 30 kilometers west of Alexandra. But, confusingly, Hawass soon denied making this announcement.

Archaeologist Kathleen Martinez was allowed to dig at the temple site. After 10 years of digging, hundreds of small objects were found, including pottery and remains, but no secret tomb was found. However, Martinez believed that Cleopatra was buried there.

If you find Cleopatra’s tomb, there will be earthquakes in archaeological circles all over the world. However, one small problem is that if archaeologists place their hopes on short written records, the results will surely be disappointing. There is no doubt about this. For example, looking for the tomb of Cleopatra, can you base it on the description of the enemy Roman historian?
