The greater Kudu - MyPictureDay Submission

The male greater Kudu in iSimangaliso Wetland Park, Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa.

I was driving through the iSimangaliso Wetland Park when I saw a male greater Kudu right next to the road. The greater Kudu in my opinion is the most beautiful anatelope of South africa, with its amazing curved horns, its unusual size and the stripes covering its body. Later on I photographed a herd of buffalo crossing the road.

The greater kudu (Tragelaphus strepsiceros) is a woodland antelope found throughout eastern and southern Africa. Despite occupying such widespread territory, they are sparsely populated in most areas, due to a declining habitat, deforestation and poaching.

The range of the greater kudu extends from the east in Ethiopia, Tanzania, Eritrea and Kenya into the south where they are found in Zambia, Angola, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa. Other regions where greater kudu are located are Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Malawi, Mozambique, Somalia, Swaziland, and Uganda.

I used the Nikon d90 with Nikon AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm F4.5-5.6G IF-ED lens.
