MY LOCAL NEWS] Uyo event day 17: Itu cultural and traditional day
As Akwa Ibom state marks her 17th day of the traditional and cultural display of each local government area in the state today beign 17th December, 2023, Itu local government area set in today to showcase their traditional and cultural heritage.
The event was considered as a breathtaking event that brought together some great creativity and rich cultural heritage of the Itu people.
It was a moment of joy as the older women of Itu people took the opportunity to teach the younger ones on how to mold with clay as this is part of their traditional heritage.
The day was marked by a mesmerizing showcase of some high creative cultural exhibition to entertain and and educate tourist by the Itu people.
While giving the history of Itu people, Barr. Etetim Onuk, who is serving as the chairman of Itu Local government area of Akwa Ibom state pointed out why their culture is very important to all generation.
"We are not just rich with culture. Our culture is financial sustainable in the sense that....you can practice our culture while still making money to take care of yourself. Take for instance, the molding of pot with clay etc. I believe we all saw how those old women were molding varrious things with clay. That's one of our inheritage. I am glad to see how we all respond to this invitation. Please enjoy today and learn from it as well"-Barr. Etetim Onuk (local government area)
The event was spiced up with some traditional play like mbok(wrestling), Ekpe( masquerade), ubom isong, ekpe , Ikwod masquerades and ekongke(quizz) which all add some traditional flair to the event.
The youths of the Itu community expressed their gratitude towards the key people who made this event a resounding success. They further thank all the attendees who not only admire their creativity but supported them.
Speaking with one of the community leaders, Mr.Nsikak Sunday, he expressed his sincere appreciation to all the stake holders who keeps to their words in terms of supporting.

The entire Itu people extends their heartfelt thanks to Pastor Umo Eno for his contributions to making this celebration a reality this year.
It was a great moment when Itu food were introduced and displayed to the tourist by the older women.
