[MY LOCAL NEWS] Uyo event day 13: Ikot Abasi day
Uyo residents felt a great entertaining atmosphere today as the welcome the people of Ikot Abasi local government area on their cultural day which happen to be today 13th December, 2023 at Uyo Christmas village
Ikot Abasi is one of the local government area in the state of Akwa Ibom.
The event kick start with the MC and the keynote address from the local government chairman of Ikot Abasi Mr. Joshua Afia.
He gave a brief history of Ikot Abasi people.
“Ikot Abasi people have always been the most peaceful people in the state with the most entertaining cultural background. We are the sons and daughters of the soil and we know what it takes to stand out. I am glad to be here today with my people to have this good time. It’s a festive period and a moment of joy. I wish and hope that our day would be celebrated successfully. Ikot Abasi Isongho! Isongho! Isongho!” - Hon. Joshua Afia.
Ikot Abasi people came fully prepared to display their cultural heritage.
Among the cultural play they displayed were : Utu ekpe,

Black cat,Masquerades(Ekpo) and the play called ”udoh” which is more popular in the history of Ikot Abasi people.

Different cultural groups and dancers also perform to mark this a great day.
Speaking with Mr Ndiana-abasi who is an indigene of Ikot Abasi who seems to have a good time throughout the event, he called it ”the best of best”.
”The energy that comes with this traditional drum and music is on a different level and vibes. This is one of our greatest heritage and I am proud to be an indigene of Ikot Abasi. This is home for care, culture and entertainment.
Even though, some of our play looks a bit violent but we don’t hurt anyone, it’s just a play of our culture. The vibes is just so unimaginable. A good number of Ikot Abasi people, especially my generation really love this particular masquerade more than others. We seems to unite here more than anywhere” - Ndiana-abasi
Members of the planning committee gave their closing remark to end the show and also invited everyone to attain tomorrow show which would be featuring another local government Area in Akwa Ibom state.
Vendors expressed their appreciation for all the customers that patronize their business while the event was going on.
