ScholarsPH Blog #6: Myke, the Smiling Chef from Tagum City
Here's an update on Myke, our first scholar
It was not long ago since we started this humble project of supporting students who are less fortunate but have the determination to succeed in life. We were hopeful about the project and believed in its strength, but never did we expect to receive overwhelming support both locally and internationally. To all our generous sponsors, we have nothing but gratitude.
As promised, we will provide constant updates about our scholars.
Today, we will share a great news about our first scholar. Myke is an aspiring chef who is enrolled at a technical vocational school in Tagum City, Philippines. It's great that he is under the advisory of @chinitacharmer, a teacher in the Philippines and one of the members of @scholarsph.
About three weeks ago, Myke has received his first monthly stipened amounting to 1,000 pesos or approximately 20 USD. In the Philippines, this is already quite a good amount especially for students who are struggling financially.
As mentioned earlier, he likes to be a chef, so he chose to enrol under the strand Hotel and Restaurant Servicing, a course comprising of three different majors: (1) Food Processing, (2) Cookery, and (3) Housekeeping.
At the moment he is taking up Food Processing. One of the basic requirements needed to complete the program is a chef's uniform. This is where he spent half of his stipend.
Just yesterday, he was able to get his chef's uniform. The happiness and pride he was feeling in wearing it was so evident in his face. We reckon he is ready to rock the kitchen in his white uniform. Check out his photo below.
The other half of his money was spent on the ingredients and materials he needed for his first practical examination which was fish deboning. Below is a picture of him practicing how to debone bangus, also known as milkfish.
All of this became possible because of your kindness and generosity. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much!

Keep it up mike, fulfill your dreams, were proud of you
How did he spend the one thousand pesos?
Is this for a salary daily?
Hello @iridion9 the allowance that the team gave to Myke was used to buy for his uniform. Depending on the situation of the scholar he can use the funds that the team gave on his daily expenses for school.
We only give the stippends once a month.
