Safari Park - Show Us Your California

This post is an entry into the weekly Show Us Your California contest hosted by @socalsteemit where we show an aspect of our California.

I recently was able to take the family to a place none of us had ever been - San Diego Zoo’s Safari Park!

This safari park is inland from northern San Diego and they have 1,800 acres of land there. The key difference between this place and many other zoos, is that they have “open roam” areas, where many types of animals cohabitate and have lots of space. The park takes you around to look at the animals in a trams and jeeps, which is cool to see the animals in their more natural state (instead of a zoo enclosure).

We had a great time at the Safari Park and enjoyed many different aspects. They did a good job with their education on different topics, especially ecosystems and the roles the native animals play. They also have a quite extensive plant, tree and flower assortment - I believe they quoted more than 1.2 million different types, so it is also a focus of the park.
