Moving Pods - show Us Your California

in #mycalifornia3 years ago

Hi Friends,

This post is an entry into the weekly Show Us Your California contest hosted by @socalsteemit.

It’s no secret that many people are moving out of California. The popular spots to move include Texas, Arizona, Idaho, and Colorado, primarily.

It is common to see the “moving pods” in people’s driveway - these are placed there and loaded at your leisure, then the pod is dropped at your new location for you to unload. One of our neighbors (also good friends) have decided to move to Idaho, and they are currently filing their 3rd pod:

People have been leaving, but many people have been buying these houses up and the home prices have continued to rise. The equilibrium is the cost of land plus cost to build, but both of these items continue to rise (especially the cost to build as labor, lumber and building materials have skyrocketed) so it is unlikely that large decreases in home prices are coming. Two of my younger siblings both recently bought a house for the first time (in California) and some friends who have been waiting for home prices to drop (boy have they regretted that decision) are anxious to buy. Anything that comes on the market is snatched up quickly, often with 10 bids over asking price - it is crazy really. Our neighbors moving to Idaho bought their house without even seeing it and the first time they will ever visit it is when they move in - times have changed.

But I write this while the weather is sunny and 70 degrees Fahrenheit and we played outside for hours today. There is great entertainment, shopping, schools, and opportunities all around (when things are open!) so yes, the cost of living is high, taxes are high, the state is more liberal than most, traffic can be bad, etc - there are plenty of downsides to any particular area, but there are so many positives as well. All that to say, the moving pods will continue to be around as people come and people go - you won’t find any in my driveway any time soon, unless I am upgrading to a nearby mansion.

Thanks for coming by and seeing a little piece of my California.

Brian

I used to live in San Jose, CA, but moved to Phoenix in 2006, haha. But I loved growing up in Cali!

Cool, I like both places - great places to live!

For sure!

Congratulations @brian.rrr, your post won 1st prize in this weeks Show us Your California contest!!
