The Second Myanmar Empire
After the fall of Bagan ther no more was a political power strong enough to control the whole country. One evil war followed another. Second Myanmar Empire was founded by King MinGyi Nyo (A.D 1531-1550) continued and completed his father's task of political unification. Tabin Shwe Hti's brother-in-law Bayinnaung who succeeded him built the largest and the strongest Empire in Southeast Asia of that time.
Not only Myanmar chronicles recored the glory and greatness of the Second Myanmar Empire, but also foreigners like Italian, Portuguese and English merchants and travelers who visited Myanmar of Toungoo peroid (A.D 1486- 1599) wrote eyewitness accounts of Kings Tabin Shwe Htee and Bayinnaung, their might and their grand city and palace.
Like most sovereigns of Myanmar, Bayinnaung was a great supporter and defender of Buddhism. Hiz zeal for Buddhism led to his buildingbpagodas in each of the countries he conquered. He repaired the Shwedagon Pagoda and added a new spire to it after the earthquake in 1565.
Sir George Scott paid Bayinnaung the greatest compliment, when he said "Bayinnaung was a great and has wxploits surpassed those of King Anawrahta and even of King Alaungmintaya. He not only united Myanmar but extended the Myanmar power to the farthest limit it ever had".
Bayinnaung was succeeded by his son Nadabayin. During Nandabayin's reign the Second Myanmar Empire was split up into petty states independent of one another......................
