Myanmar president resigns
After nearly half-a-century military rule, the National League for Democracy (NLD) leader, Tin, who was made the first civilian president of Myanmar, resigned.
In a statement posted on Facebook from the President's Office on Wednesday, he has resigned for the rest with the exemption from the current job. His resignation will be effective immediately.
The BBC said 71-year-old Tin Ti's health status was going bad for the past few months. He was not seen regularly at state event.
Suu Kyi did not have the chance to become a president under the Myanmar Constitution because she married a foreign citizen. As a result of the long victory of the long military leadership in Myanmar with the big victory of the NLD in the 2015 election, Nobel laureate Suu Kyi chose her son-in-law for the post of president, longtime trusted adviser Tin Cha.
It has been said that Vice President General Mint Sawe will be acting acting president until the new president takes oath.
