Myanmar Traditional Food Rice Balls (Known as Mote Lone Yay Paw in Myanmar)

Mote Lone Yay Paw is a traditional sweet rice balls food. The name says food that float on water(Mote Lone Yay Paw), in Myanmar language. It is usually stuffed with palm sugar, grated coconut. Mote Lone Yay Paw served during the festival of Myanmar special snack. Myanmar New Year which is also known as Thingyan Festival, Ta Zaung Tie pwe. During the festival, which includes throwing water at each other, some youngsters, in sprit of teasing each other, stuff hot chillies in rice balls instead of palm sugar.

Ingredients

• glutinous rice flour – 800 g

• coconut – 1 (grated)

• pure water – 1 cup

• Apple flavor color – 1/2 teaspoon (optional)

• palm sugar – 200 g (cut into cubes)

Making

  1. Sift glutinous rice flour and rice flour in a large bowl and mix thoroughly. If you want to add color, you can add 1/2 teaspoon of apple flavor color.
  2. Add 1 cup of water in the mixture and knead well until the dough is smooth.
  3. Scoop small dough, roll into balls and fatten.
  4. Place a chunk of palm sugar in the center of flat circled dough and put back dough into a ball shape.

  1. Boil water in any large pot., drop in the rice balls when water is boiling.
  2. The rice balls will float to the surface when cooked.

  1. Take out the rice balls and put them on sieve and in normal cool water it is very hot then banana leave or plate or other.

  1. Spread grated coconut on rice balls and serve hot.
  2. Now you can eat delicious Mote Lone Yay Paw.
