My 2018 - This is my Hobby : Creating Japanese Paper Art (Kirigami)
Today, I'm going to promote to you guys My Hobby: Creating Japanese Paper Art or Kirigami as my entry to the contest of @anomadsoul : My2018- This is my Hobby..
But before I dwell to the inner reasons why I choose Kirigami as my hobby, let me define first what is kirigami and what is the difference of origami to kirigami for those who do not know yet. For I, at first confused with the two.
Kirigami is a Japanese paper art. It is similar to similar to origami, but kirigami involves both folding and cutting into various shapes.
Kiru means "cut" in Japanese and "gami" means paper.
While..
"Ori" means folding and "gami" means paper.
Origami and kirigami are both Japanese paper art. The only difference is that origami involves paper folding only while kirigami involves cutting and paper folding.
Now you know the difference of the two and I hope that would have added to your knowledge.
Okey, so let's start talking about my hobby now...
My hobby started when I saw my cousin, Jake doing some japanese paper art or kirigami. I remember that time he was creating a vase but instead of paper, he used a negative film that he got from his work. For you to know, my cousin Jake is working at cinema so he got all the negative films from there..hahaha
This is a vase that my cousin Jake created. Back then, I ask him, If I could have it and luckily he said yes! It's been 15 years keeping this as my inspiration..
At first, I was curious and amazed that with just a pieces of paper or films, you can transform it to various shapes and forms. Back then, I was hooked and study various techniques on how to create different shapes and forms of kirigami.
I've been doing paper art or kirigami when I was in High School but when I reached college and have a child, it stop.
Until recently, I started to fell inlove again to this forgotten hobby of mine when one of steemians here in steemit conduct a contest regarding paper folding (Origami or Kirigami).
Without further adieu, I made a butterfly kirigami as my entry to the contest. Whenever I folded a paper to create something,it feels like my stress and problems in life takes away once in a while because whenever I see the result, it really amazed me a lot.
Take a look with the photo below...
This was the entry I made to the contest.
Here's another photo...

As you observe the photos above, I can say that I am only an amateur in this hobby. And maybe one of the reasons is lack of time. Lack of time to do some practising to improve my skills. For I, raising one child and at the same time part time blogger here in steemit and a sales representative in profession.
With this, I can say that this hobby is not a priority at all. Because of course, my priority in life is my child and my job. Without my job, I can not support my child's daily needs. So, I'm just doing this if I'm stress out from work or have enough time...
Also, I can say that this hobby requires skills. This is not the other hobby that if you have the materials needed or you have the resources, it will just work fine. But not this one. Also, this hobby requires patience. Because if you intend to do something expectacular output, you must have the two; skills and patience.
Moreover, this hobby is not expensive at all. Because you only need a colored papers or just a plain one, a cutter or scissors if you prefer to and a skill to do this hobby. For a person who is a minimum wage earner here in the Philippines, this is perfectly fitted you..
LESS MONEY...but BETTER OUTPUT!
And If I will expain this hobby to aliens, maybe I will just demonstrate it to them. For we have a different dialect from aliens. I dont know if they understand what I'm going to say with them. But if I will demonstrate it, maybe aliens are brilliant enough to understand my actions..Also, I believed in the saying...
ACTIONS is better than WORDS...
As if there's an alien will appear in front of me. Hahaha..And I really dont know if they really exist...
Back to my hobby, I will not take this any longer for I dont have anything to say about this hobby. But before I end this, let me share to you guys my latest kirigami artwork...
Please take a look with the photo below...
Here's another photo with the background...hahaha
photo is mine...
Above pictures is a 3D Kirigami. I already apply all my skills I have learned for past few days in order to do this one. This is my first time trying 3D Kirigami to level up my skills. And I admit that I am loving to do this than the classic one. This one requires a lot of time because it takes me one day to create this 3D Swan Kirigami and my hands are shaking at all after finishing the papers to fold.
I hope I can create more shapes and forms of 3D kirigami and I'm going to share it to you guys.
Also, I hope that someday or a few days from now, I can create a post on how to do a 3D kirigami and I will make sure that I will demonstrate it to you guys the process step by step.
So guys, watch out for it! I want you to know the feeling whenever you do kirigami so, you should try to. I'm excited to know your reactions, suggestions and comments regarding to that post... :)
This will end the story of my hobby...

Wonderful post, I wouldn't consider 3d origami kirigami but who cares(closer to modular origami), it's all paper folding, I'm hosting a 3d origami contest, I'd love it if you'd join (some neat prizes), that's a really nice butterfly model, idk what inches are though so I approximated. Really great and detailed instructions ^^ here it is next to a swan I'm working on right now

Hahaha...thank you for appreciating my post and thank you for trying my butterfly origami...Ok Id love to join in yout contest.I will find some time to create one but I read that you prefer blue or red paper to use...
No, the red or blue paper just as background, it's for plagiarism, I added a picture to the contest post as an example, model can be any color
Ah I see..hahaha ok got it! thanks a lot..:)
