New Year is one of the most anticipated events of the year. It is celebrated in almost every part of world and some places observe different New Year traditions and celebrations but for me, New Year in the Philippines is still the best. 😊

We Filipinos are great supertitious believers. As funny as it sounds we incorporate almost everything to supertitious beliefs. For us everything has its corresponding meaning of luck and menaces and our parents and grandparents are keen on what we do thinking it might bring bad or good luck to the family.

Even New Year didn't go unnoticed, we celebrate it in a bizzare but definitely unique way. Filipinos are great in spicing things up so I'm gonna let you plunge in our world and see how we celebrate New Year in the Philippines. 😁😊😉

  1. Celebrants
  • celebrating New Year with family is very essential. It serves as a family reunion and an opportunity to gather all members of the family to bond. Although some people choose to celebrate it with friends most of the time it is considered a family event.
  1. Foods and preparation
  • Noche Buena or Media Noche is the term for New Year's food. It is festive and it usually comprises of various kinds of food that signifies different meanings
  • sweets, desserts, chocolates are always present in the table. Many believe that these foods attract positive energy and bring good vibes for the rest the year.
  • pasta and noodles mean longer life and eggs mean new life
  • 12 different round fruits represent the months of the year and also believed to be bring luck

  1. Celebration
  • before 12 am (New Year's eve) the family gathers around the table and make a countdown as the New Year arrives
  • at 12 am some people jump as they believe they will grow taller 😁. Some make noises through hornpipes and slamming of pots, they believe they are summoning good fortunes. Some lit firecrackers but it is already prohibited by our government administration so people light fireworks instead.
  • after the highlight we usually to proceed to eating Noche Buena and then morning the night!

That pretty much sums up our New Year im my country. During New Year I advice to put earplugs because the noise might tear your eardrums. Noisy is even an understatement, we produce noise for as much as we can. Some people might find it absurd but growing up with that tradition I've come to get used to it. 😊

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you have a great year ahead of you. ☺😚😙
Also thank you @anomadsoul for conducting this contest. A nice way to get acquainted with the New Year traditions from other parts of the world. 😊
