Resolutions

in #musings7 years ago

Well, in just a matter of time we would be bidding bye to the year and usher in a new year. As usual, quite a lot of people will start to pen goals and new resolutions for the year, most of which are carried over from previous years unaccomplished.

Many ladies and girls alike will come up with several fitfam goals with aims to get that 'summer body shape', 'coke bottle shape' or 'figure 8' as the case may be. For some others, it will be serious weight loss battle just as some try to work on either butts or boobs enlargement.

The men and boys are not left behind as they as well are seriously hitting the gym either for 'six packs', 'body building' or weight loss as the case may be.

As healthy as these resolutions may seem, the irony comes into play on a random assessment as to reasons why most of these people get into these schemes.

The 'fat' lady on your street is seriously working herself and starving just because society (Yes! You and I) size-shames her publicly in restaurants, schools, offices, commercial buses etc. She cries herself to bed most nights because her crush in school or at the workplace calls her 'fat' and assumes her to be ugly. Things do not get better because even at home she is equally not appreciated for who she is by those who are supposed to be her family.

The 'slim' girl has also lost her self esteem because everyone assumes that she could be blown away just by slightly turning on the 'OX' fan at home. In a bid to add weight, she has eaten all junks within her reach, Dominos even send her extra text messages and in no time she could just become the face of Coldstone creamery. Society has successfully aided in making her lose her self-worth, just like the 'fat' girl she is equally size-shamed.

Also not left out are the ladies or girls with small butts, boobs or both. These ones have been made to feel like they're responsible for what society terms their 'misfortune'. Social media has played a major role in influence this genre of body-shaming and as a result many have resorted either to wearing 'fake bums' or 'push up bras' just to be accepted by the society.

It is quite disheartening to understand that regardless of the type of body a person possesses, however perfect it may seem, society will still find a way to body-shame people notwithstanding. They either come for the face, neck (ask Di'ja), mouth, forehead etc.

In the new year and beyond, we need to start appreciating people for who they really are and not what not they look like. Give words of encouragement to that person on your street, school or workplace who's doing everything possible to lose weight. That lady with small boobs or butts is also as human as the ones who own them massively moreover some of them are either abused or wish they didn't even possess them, vanity. If you don't have anything good to say at all, you had better not say a word.

Don't be that person who causes another to lose his/her self-worth while trying to fit into society's so called 'standards'.

This year, we won't give in to society body shaming us. We will as well continue to be sources of encouragement to one another.
