That is not general, there are some old people that keep rocking... Just to give an example: Clif High
Due to personal choices I think. Learning can be done untill death and it is the choice of a person not to do that. Sure if people get older the willing to learn is decreasing but this is partially still their own choice!
I do agree with you
People may stop formal education but they can neglect specific knowledge.
