There are so many ways of answering this, but I am not interested in sharing my religious beliefs here.
Usually when somebody asks me this question I simply say that 'purpose of existence is to perhaps find purpose in it'.

The sole purpose of our existence is to worship our creator and honour him because he alone deserves to be praised
To enjoy this planet, to make ourselves useful and being able to continue humanity.
