Is life somehow filled with Destiny? Or does miss Coincidence rule? steemCreated with Sketch.

Always an interesting question to ask oneself and discuss with others, especially after a series of most peculiar events. Ok, ok, maybe not entirely 'peculiar', but still... owww well, you decide :)

Several weeks ago - more like months, thinking of it - I came across a piece of music by the Dutch Jakob van Domselaer, a composer of classical music. One of his biggest works is 'Proeven van Stijlkunst' (in English 'Experiments In Artistic Style'), a piece for piano. Owww boy, how much I like that one! Minimal, Powerful, Unique, are a few words to describe the music.

Then... this weekend my eyes fell upon the most famous works by the Dutch artist and painter Mondrian; Revealing itself to me as a graffiti on a set of road signs (check the post here)... Guess what? Mondrian's work I really love as well!

And then, today I discovered a relation between these two artists! Mondrian and Domselaer were connected. Sometime early last century, Domselaer met Mondrian in Paris and joined his 'De Stijl' artistic circle. It was in this period, Domselaer composed 'Experiments In Artistic Style' heavily influenced by 'De Stijl' applying minimalism and abstractism to music. Interestingly, it was one of Mondrian's most favourite pieces he listened to frequently when in his studio.

Always a bit strange, but since I know this fact, I appreciate the music by Domselaer even more. Guess this knowledge enhances my complete experience, the music, the paintings, the connection. Something similar to for instance food: It is not only our taste buds that determines the taste, but it is the combination of everything else - from the looks to setting and company - that creates the complete experience and can make food taste better.

...but, back to the original question:

Is life somehow filled with Destiny? Or does miss Coincidence rule?

I'm still trying to figure this out! :)

That is a tough question to answer definitively. On the one hand many people believe in things like the law of attraction, fate and things like that. On the other hand there are also many cognitive biases that make people find meaning in random events (conformation bias, pattern seeking/recognition, and superstition among others). I dont have an answer for you but those circumstances are an interesting coincidence. I think that the biggest importance is that the event helped you appreciate the work even more :)

guess that question is one of the most asked questions amongst quite a large group of scientists and they are trying to get to an answer as well hahaha. i still go with coincidence, unless proven different :)

I agree. I tend to think of these things as coincidences as well. Our minds tend to take more notice of things that appear to form a pattern. It's our forever quest of searching for meaning in random events. Lol
