I like to use the #mymusic tag to indicate songs, groups, singers or musical genres that have marked me throughout my life. And there are always those who leave a deep impression on us and then help you define yourself, or become an association with a time, a place, a person, but ultimately become part of your living memory.

For me it is very satisfying to make an analysis of all that music that has marked me, because I feel there is a huge variety, that I have been open to many musical forms, cultures and sounds. Music has many functions and I have enjoyed each of them, when it comes to music to enjoy, to dance, or when it comes to the most authentic expression of a people and its culture, or when it becomes a weapon of denunciation or agitation, as well as when its purpose is to conquer the heart of the beloved person.

In several of these lines one of the greatest artists of Brazil, one of the most extraordinary voices, with an exclusive vocal range that allows him to change octaves to a surprising level and that is capable of transmitting the most varied feelings, to sing each song.

Milton Nascimento is also a singer, guitarist, arranger and composer. To introduce him, I'm going to take the liberty of quoting Wikipedia in Spanish, which says:

This description clearly denotes what I explained above, Milton is able to enter into any aspect of music because of that variety in his message.

For those who know me, it is known that my musical education, in adolescence, was marked by the New Latin American Song, and there also enters "Bituca", a nickname for which this Brazilian singer is known.

His birth was accompanied by suffering, the son of a maid abandoned by her boyfriend, who died when Milton was barely two years old, a product of depression because of the precarious situation in which she lived with her mother and her young son. But his destiny took a new direction when the owner of the house where Milton's grandmother worked, who was in charge of him, saw that she could not get pregnant and decided to adopt him, to which her grandmother agreed, with the condition that the child he will keep his maternal surname, which is what he uses as an artist, since his legal name is Milton Silva Campos Nascimento.

But this family not only gave him a home and a decent standard of living and allowed him to enter other social cicles, because both new parents were white, but also linked him to music, as his new mother was a teacher of that discipline, who had studied with the great music of that country Heitor Villa Lobos. The father, on the other hand, owned a radio station.

In 1962 he began his musical adventures, but it was in 1966 that the singer Elis Regina recorded a composition by Milton, "Canção do Sal", which led him to new step. The following year he won the second place of the International Song Festival, a very important event that was organized in Rio de Janeiro, until it was closed by the military dictatorship in 1972. There he won that prize as a singer with a composition of him and Fernando Brant , called "Travessia". This gave him national fame.

His international projection has very particular characteristics and is the fact of being admired by the greatest artists of the world, who have recorded his songs and featured him many times.

In 2015 he received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from the Berklee College of Music. He has won five Grammy awards, which accompany a discography of more than 30 albums.

His performance of the song Caico (Cántiga), of 1980, still reaches me to the deepest part of my being and makes me shudder, like the first time I heard it. For all those reasons, Milton Nascimento is part of #MyMusic.
