Audioslave - Biography, Discography and History

in #music7 years ago

Audioslave is a US rock alternative rock group consisting of former musician Rage Against the Machine; Tom Morello (guitar), Tim Commerford (bass), and Brad Wilk (drums), and former Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell.

They were formed in Los Angeles, California in 2001, after the breakup of RATM (Rage Against the Machine). Audioslave was the first US band to hold a free Cuba concert for about 50,000 spectators on May 6, 2005. After  publishing three albums, receiving three Grammy nominations, and  selling 8 million pieces of recordings in the world, Chris Cornell declared out of the band. This was done about one month after Morello, Commerford, and Wilk declared themselves reunited with singer Zack de la Rocha to reshape RATM. In addition both Morello and Cornell published a solo album in 2007, so the Audioslave is currently practically disbanded.

Personnel of Audioslave

  • Chris Cornell - lead vocalist, Rhythm Guitar (2001-2007)
  • Tom Morello - Lead Guitar (2001-2007)
  • Team Commerford - Bass guitar, backing vocals (2001-2007)
  • Brad Wilk - Drums (2001-2007)

History

The history of Audioslave dates back to October 18, 2000, when Rage Against's Zack de la Rocha Machine vocalist announced he was leaving the band, citing disruptions in his "decision-making process". Rage Against the Machine broke up as a result of de la Rocha's departure, but the remaining three members of the band - Tim Commerford, Tom  Morello, and Brad Wilk - decided to stay together and announced plans to continue with the new vocalist. Some of the vocalists bogged down with three, including - B real Cypress Hill, but they did not want any other rapper or anyone who sounded like de la Rocha. Producer and friend Rick Rubin Music later suggested that they play with Chris Cornell, a former frontman of Soundgarden. Rubin also persuaded the three of them to go to group therapy with  performance coach Phil Towle after Rubin's breakup convinced that with the newly angry rights the sound of Against the Machine had the potential to become a better band, "he believes" it could turn into a Yardbirds-to-Led Zeppelin  scenario. Commerford then credited Rubin for being the catalyst that brought Audioslave together. He called him an "angel at a crossroads " because "if it were not for him, I would not be in here today."

Chemistry between Cornell and the other three was immediately apparent, as Morello explained:

"He stepped into the microphone and sang the song and I could not believe It's not just that great sound it does not sound  great ... it sounds transcendent, and ... if anything chemistry is irreplaceable from the first moment, you can not deny it."

The quartet wrote 21 songs for 19 days of practice, and began working in the studio at the end of May 2001 with Rubin as a producer, while sorting out label and management issues.

Layne Staley was also considered for singer, but he was in bad shape because of his drug addiction, from which he died in 2002.
