Something in music: origin
One evening at a hot, trendy L.A. nightclub on a rare solo outing, yours truly found himself standing alone at the bar preparing to review the upcoming act. Before he had taken more than a few notes, however, he was bookended by a pair of vivacious vixens who insisted on engaging your rockin’ writer in cozy conversation. Strangely, the subject of “marriage” arose.
One of the young ladies noted that when a gal is about to get hitched she needs “something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.” Your provocative penman was immediately inspired. After all, those very same terms could be applied to music too: “Something old” or classic, “something new” or recently released, “something borrowed” (a cover), and “something blue” (a blues song or a song with “blue” in the title.) The rest is history.
Something Old
Our “something old'' this edition is the classic cut "The Boys Are Back in Town" recorded by the Irish hard rock band named Thin Lizzy. It was written by group member Phil Lynch. Released as a single, it originally appeared on their 1976 platter Jailbreak.
Something New
Our “something new” this edition is the new song “Strawberry Drip” by the unsigned Oklahoma City-based act known only as 7j2music. This hop hop single features IGP man and is from the act’s upcoming album titled *Shamanistic Spits*. .Something Borrowed
This time around our “something borrowed” is the 1965 song "(You;re Pushin’) Too Hard' by the by American rock group The Seeds. This rockin’ retro rendition is by the UK-based psych-pop band Rob Clarke and The Wooltones. The group irst shared the track in 2015
Something Blue
Finally, our “something blue” this time is the song “Midnight Blues” written and recorded by Snowy White and The White Flames. The song is off their 1996 disc titled No Faith Required,
