Rhythm and Dance Dedicated to the Herons LENJENG
Lenjeng is a rhythm and dance that the Mandingo villagers of Casamance Senegal and the Sierra Leone area created during The Great Malian Empire to emulate the flight of the Herons, one of many animal's migrations that helped them gage their days and years.
Again this is a clip from a show I produced in 1998 at The Fine Arts Center in Colorado Springs. The dancers will make it quite obvious which animal is being honored.
Traditionally this rhythm is played on sabar drums which are played with the palm and a stick.

To me it always sounds like more sounds than just drums some way. I really like it.
I hope you are feeling better or at least good enough to get us back out there on the boat.
Nice dance and drums combination music.
Great post. Thank you for sharing. Love the energy and costumes. A joy to view.
OMG! That was so energetic and fun!!! Those dancers can really move and the beat of the drums makes me want to get up from my chair and dance!
I have really come to enjoy these pieces that you are showing off. A gentle reminder that I am missing one would be great. I have been so behind that I rarely venture out to many profiles!!
I really need to get better about that.
Awesome @willowwisp!! Thank you!!

Always love your rhythm music i was bopping up and down on my office chair listening to them rhythms...lol :)
That was fun to watch AND listen too.
Hope all is well your way.
All is...good enough. I'm taking the rest of the month mostly off until after Labor Day. It's going to get hectic and fun for me. My sisters are coming.
Sisters are great ! .... and such fun. I know you will have a wonderful time.
It is so fun, I am listening to drums and hear a melody. Before I started to watch your video, I have never think about that.
And.... anyway Iike Kuku more 😉😊

I like Kuku more too. It's a very "young" rhythm, only about 100 years old. I'm glad you like it and can hear the melody.
The drummers and dancers were incredible and I really enjoyed watching this. I was able to appreciate it more because of you explaining what this dance was all about.
Thank you. I'm glad you could appreciate the talent.
