Do We Need Noise While Eating Out Or Shopping?
Last year was when I noticed it was getting bad while Christmas shopping at a Shopko, the music they were playing was the most annoying I'd ever heard. The insane fast tempo of a Christmas song was making me want to pick up a baseball bat and start smashing stuff.

Other shoppers I noticed were getting agitated by this awful noise too. All I remember from the song was a chipmunk sounding "Merry, merry Christmas....." in the fastest beat one could muster. It was a cross between Mariah Carey & Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga but it could have been Cindi Lauper too. Just check out these atrocious songs here:

These awful songs are playing EVERYWHERE from gas stations to small town cafe's. Just shut it off already! We used to complain about elevator music, maybe we were too harsh since elevator music didn't make us want to bust up the store. Now that I've brought this to your attention you will notice it everywhere. EVERYWHERE!! Restaurants are the worst offenders with department stores running a close second.

Music is supposed to enhance our lives with appropriate music for specific outcomes. The science behind music was discovered many years ago. Here is what music is meant to do.
Ease pain. I don't think rap, Lady Gaga or the Bieb fall into this category.
Improve workouts. The stuff I'm hearing while EATING has been misplaced, save it for the gym.
Improve sleep. You don't want to listen to rap or the Bieb here, try classical and replace a brain cell or two.
Help you eat less. Soft music not the top ten on the pop charts. Get a clue.
Reduce stress. I don't think the pop charts fit here either.
Relieve depression. When it's annoying it does the opposite.
Improve cognitive performance. That depends on if it's annoying and awful to begin with.
Whoever is in charge of picking the music venue whether it's a shopping environment or a restaurant needs to know what they are doing before picking music. Eating establishments should have soft, low music to keep people from over eating but create a lingering effect. Shoppers need to be relaxed so they stay longer and buy more. My Christmas shopping experience made me want to run out of the store before I got arrested for disorderly conduct. Music matters. Fire the ones currently picking it, they suck at it.

Gas stations have now added the annoying tv screen at the pumps blasting stupid advertising. One just can't escape the noise. Almost all restaurants now have some pop~no~talent~ass~clowns blasting so loud you can't converse at your table.
Try complaining and asking them to turn it down, they look at you like you just asked for the theory of relativity. SMH.
I'm writing a letter to Shopko Corporate to see what they have to say. This should be interesting....
I agree, Christmas music is the worst type of any music whilst shopping, its like they reach a hand down your throat and stuff the track all the way down into your intestines until you almost vomit, it makes me want to get out of the shop and run home as quickly as possible.

Today's Christmas music is awful and that's what they play. No wonder retailers are losing money.
They are losing money? Last time I looked they were doing ok, isn't it everyone else that is screwed? :-/
Most retailers are fighting onlines sales vs people coming to their brick and mortar stores is what I meant.
Ah yes that is true for certain, I guess one aspect of shopping online is that you don't need to put up with bad music when shopping, unless you really want to get the atmosphere of it for some weird reason :-p

as a severe migraine having person that i am i agree that random noise and flashing lights need to be stopped. even the perfumes they spray everywhere need to go. addie hates the music as well and she works where it is played loud and constant. its a public nuisance.
