Hey, Steemians! today's topic is Cables. Since it's a vast topic, I've decided to split it into 2 parts. So, Let's call this one Cables: part 1.
So, today let's discuss analogue cables, the cables that carry analogue information are called analogue cables. They are divided into 2 types:
- Balanced Cables:
The reason they are called balanced cables because they minimise the loss caused due to interference over long distances. These cables carry 3 wires in them. 1 is called hot, second is called cold and third is called ground. Due to such structure, they're called balanced cables. The hot terminal carries original signal, cold carries a mirrored copy i.e its polarity is reversed. The image below will show how the interference is avoided.
Phase inversion takes place at the console, due to which the noise(interference) is cancelled out.
Examples of Balanced cables are XLR cables and TRS cables.
- Unbalanced Cables:
These cables are suitable for a short distance, where chances of interference are less. It only has 2 wires viz. Hot and Ground. There's no cold terminal. Hence phase inversion doesn' occur and interference may not be cancelled, therefore the cable is termed as Unbalanced cable. TS cable is an example of unbalanced cable.
