Today we're gonna talk about Equalizers or EQ.
Equalizer is used to boost or cut certain frequencies of sound as per the requirement or taste. This can be done at the recording stage or Mixing stage or both. Mainly there are 3 types of EQ.

1] Graphic EQ:

This type of EQ is seen most commonly. It has faders to cut or boost a particular frequency to which it is assigned. The number of faders differs in various EQs.

a typical graphic EQ will look like this.

2] Semi-Parametric EQ:

This EQ lets you have more control than the graphic EQ over the audio signal. In semi-parametric EQ you can choose the exact frequency and then cut or boost it. Mostly there are knobs that let you do that.

here's an example of semi-parametric EQ.

3] Fully parametric EQ:

This type of EQ is similar to semi-parametric EQ but with an additional feature called as cue.
The cue knob lets you decide whether you want a notch or bell at the selected frequency.

That's a fully parametric EQ for you.

Being a Producer/Sound engineer from today's digital era I'm used to the EQ plug-ins of various DAWs, Although I've used a hardware EQ(API 550) but not that often. So, here are some DAW related examples of EQ.
