Panga: The story behind the song.
Hello, Steemians!
Today I'm in the mood for sharing a personal story that inspired a song I co-wrote with my very best friend, who's also my roomate at the moment, Montserrat Ledesma ➡ She's a great pianist/composer/singer whose music you can listen following this link: https://soundcloud.com/ave-parva.
In the summer of 2015 we decided to go to Uruguay on a musical tour trip with some other friends. ⬇
It was by far the best trip I ever made. We toured the Uruguayan coast for a month and met incredible places and amazing people along the way ♥, but I personally felt an instant connection with one place in particular: Cabo Polonio, which is located in a National Park in the department of Rocha.
The most beautiful thing about it is that it's full of "ranchos", which are houses with no electricity or running water, except for the places with their own generator or its lighthouse. There's also no public lighting, which allows you to appreciate the night sky on clear nights ➡ during the new moon it is necessary to use a flashlight in order to be able to see, but when there is a full moon you can walk calmly through the foliage to go downtown (which takes a five minutes walk and at night is always full of candles creating a beautiful scene). ⬇
We spent ten days in Cabo Polonio and lived in four different "ranchos", but during our stay at the second one we met a beautiful white mare called Panga. She became our roommate during three amazing days full of laughter, music and card games 😍.
I remember I was enjoying the sundown next to her when I started singing a melody that popped into my head. I was singing to Panga when Montse came holding a guitar and all of a sudden I had my notebook and a pen in my hands writing the words of what became our first song together. A couple of minutes later we moved into the bedroom in order to record our ideas on my cellphone -which had plenty of battery since we always kept it off due to no electricity- and a friend of ours took a photo of that very best moment 😊
After a couple of months after the trip, we decided to record our song in order to make that afternoon in Cabo Polonio last forever.
Panga is now a song that speaks to me of freedom, of letting go in order to always venture youself to what life has to propose 💗
