Jaya The Cat - Ska from Amsterdam
Hello Steemians,
let me introduce to you these funky guys from Amsterdam. A great mix between ska, punk and reggae: Jaya tha Cat
Originally founded in Bosten, Massachusetts in 1998 they passed through many member changes. After the release of their second album in 2003, two band members left and the remaining band decided to move to Amsterdam where they played and recorded some years before. There they completed the band with some Dutch musicians and became the best Jaya the cat-formation so far. Album history:
- 2001: Basement Style
- 2003: First Beer of a New Day
- 2007: More Late Night Transmissions With…
- 2012: The New International Sound of Hedonism
- 2017: A Good Day For The Damned
Characteristic for their music is the combination of funky offbeats and guitar-lines with constant (rock) drum beats and the raw voice of singer Geoff Lagadec. Check out their tourdates for Germany and Netherlands on their website linked here!
Here's a newer tune from their latest album from 2017:
And in case you know similar bands: tell me in the comments!
For me some songs sound like Skindred (mainly the song Voice Of The Poor) but actually that's a different kind of music and it's just the same kind of raw voice.
