Awesome Metal Bands part 3: Lamb of God

in #music6 years ago

Hello my fellow Steemians,

compared to reggae or hiphop, metal is a very special genre which is not for everyones ears. So we know the metal-posts don't get much attention, but we love it so we don't care :D
Today i'd like to introduce to you the American Metal band:

Lamb of God

One of the first songs i heard from Lamb of God: Redneck from the album Sacrament, released in 2006

First Lamb of God was formed as Burn the Priest in 1994. They changed their name in 2000 to avoid being mistaken for a satanic metal band and because of the altered line-up. Better titled as "The new wave of american metal" or "Groove metal" they play a quick and aggressive metal which is very demanding. Trust me when I say the drummer (Chris Adler) is one of the best i know. His elder brother Willie Adler is the guitarist.

The first album with the new name was New American Gospel released in September 2000 followed by As the Palaces Burn in 2003. Next Ashes of the Wake in 2004 and two years later Sacrament in 2006. To support Sacrament they appeared on major tours together with big acts like Slayer, Children of Bottom, Killswitch Engage or Soilwork. The best songs from Sacrament are definitely "Redneck" and "Walk with me in Hell" ;)
The next album Wrath was then released 2009 with great songs like "In your Words" or "Grace".

Set to Fail from the album Wrath

In the same year Lamb of God released their seventh studio album Resolution, the singer Randy Blythe became arrested from the Czech police for his action during a concert in Prague in 2010. Back then he pushed a fan who climbed on the stage, the 19-year old fan hit his head on the floor when he fell and later died of the injury. The verdict in 2013 said Blythe had moral responsibility for the fan's death but he was not criminally liable. While he was arrested he wrote some lyrics for the latest album VII: Sturm und Drang:

“It’s a record about how people handle extreme situations. The literal translation is ‘Storm And Stress’ – it sums up everything on the record, it really does, perfectly. Obviously it started with me being in prison, but this isn’t my prison album. The song 512 is asking ‘How am I handling this?’ Anyone who’s been locked up will probably understand what I’m trying to say. It’s about the brutal psychic shift you undergo when you become incarcerated, because it’s not a normal situation at all. People in prison think and act 100% differently from people on the outside. It’s a different world.”

The last publication of Lamb of God is the EP The Duke released in November 2016. They released the EP in honor of a fan and friend of the band who died because of leukemia. The lyrics of the song "The Duke" are about the last moments before dying and it's also a special one because it's the first song with clean vocals in the beginning. But no reason to worry that LoG will become softer. The second new song on the EP "Culling" is a ripsnorter.

The Duke - untypical for LoG but a great song

Hope you enjoyed it and maybe you found a new band which fits your taste of music :)

Greetings
