Drum Beats
Nope, this is not a technical discussion around drummers, drumming techniques or drumming styles. It is a music post.
I was on my way to Montague the other day .... as is my wont ...listening to really LOUD music...(drowns out my singing you see). . . . . OK, maybe not ... but nonetheless I got to thinking about drummers and songs which I love because of the influence the drums contribute.
Ian Paice on drums - Deep Purple and Highway Star
Deep Purple are a British hard rock band originally from Hertford. Formed in March 1968, the group originally included vocalist Rod Evans, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, bassist Nick Simper, keyboardist Jon Lord and drummer Ian Paice. When they broke up for the first time in July 1976, the band featured Lord, Paice, vocalist David Coverdale, bassist and vocalist Glenn Hughes, and guitarist and vocalist Tommy Bolin. The group reformed in April 1984 with their "Mark II" lineup of Blackmore, Lord, Paice, vocalist Ian Gillan and bassist Roger Glover.

This track was recorded in 1972.... holy gamoly...no electronics, no gadgets ...just pure musical genius {thinks ...'oooops, that is subjective'} .....
The next tune I want to feature with some seriously decent drumming throughout the piece... recorded in 1973 ... no tricks, no gizmos is by a band which never ever reached commercial success like Deep Purple...but had a cult following..and that includes me.
Baby please dont go - Budgie
Man, to my mind that drummer holds the whole thing together.
Budgie are a Welsh rock band from Cardiff. They are described by author Garry Sharpe-Young as one of the earliest heavy metal bands and a seminal influence to many acts of that scene,[3] with fast, heavy rock (an influence on the new wave of British heavy metal (NWOBHM) and acts such as Metallica)[4] being played as early as 1971.[5] The band has been noted as "among the heaviest metal of its day".

Damn, this has sent me down the music rabbit hole ..... watch out for a post on drummers .....
But hey, one for the road ....
In my young days I have always rated Ginger Baker the best drummer... Billy Cobham comes close but he was Jazz... so not part of my reference point ...
There is no time limit on talent
Thanks for stopping by...
