5 underground metal tracks I'm hooked on this week.
I've been spending my Friday night working on cocktail recipes for this week's convention and enjoying some music, so I thought I'd share some of my favorite songs of the week. I decided to stick with some more underground bands for my first post on the subject. This week's mood is definitely veering towards the black (which is fairly common for me, but I'll try to change it up next week so you don't get bored!)
and now, the good stuff:
END: Virga
How could I start my first metal post with anything other than my favorite Greek black metal band? Formed in 2001 in Athens, End's sound has evolved quite a bit since then. While always solid, I've been really digging the direction the band has gone in recent years. Rumor has it they are going to start working on a new full length soon, but in the meantime enjoy this track from the recent split release "Swallow Matewan". like what you hear? check out more on bandcamp: https://endaequitas.bandcamp.com/
. .INFERA BRUO: Ritual Within
From Boston, MA and signed to Bindrune Records, Infera Bruo brings a unique voice to the world of progressive black metal. I can't say enough good things about this album, the whole thing is absolutely killer! But something about this track just sticks with me. I definitely recommend listening to the rest if you like what you hear here. https://endaequitas.bandcamp.com/
. .SPECTRAL LORE: Echos of a long dead and forgotten place
Another amazing Greek band, Spectral Lore is always pushing boundries and bringing the unexpected. From ambient and experimental to black metal, you never quite know what to expect. Because this weeks theme is on the more blackened side of music, I selected an early track with an atmospheric black metal vibe. But be sure to check out some of the more recent stuff as well! https://spectrallore.bandcamp.com/
. .ZHRINE: Utopian Warfare
I was lucky enough to be introduced to Zhrine this year at Roadburn music festival in the Netherlands. While I only ended up seeing the end of their set, It still ended up being one of the highlights of the festival for me. Hailing from Reykjavík, Iceland, Zhrine instantly hooked me with their unique brand of blackened death metal. Check out more here: https://zhrine.bandcamp.com/
. .ASH BORER: Rotten Firmament
American black metal band Ash Borer really came into their own on this album. Released at the end of 2016 on Profound Lore Records, this was easily one of my favorite albums of the last year. Fair warning, it's addictive! Check out the rest of their music here: http://www.ashborer.net/p/listen.html
. . Thanks for reading! I tried to keep it short in order to let the music speak for itself. follow the tag #bazilsmetalpicks for future music posts!
