Playing Bass -

@ned posted the other day, himself singing and playing guitar. (See link bottom of post.)

You have to admit, that's not very typical of a CEO, so I thought it was pretty cool, and made a comment on the post, I will repeat just below:

"I soon learned as a musician, having really good musical taste is the hard part. We used to say in music school, learning how to listen, was the hardest part.

Anybody can play, few listen.

Bassists can change the world. Even Polish bassists.. ;-)

If you can play at the level of Jaco, or the guy above, you are the show. But there's little room for anybody else ;-)

I've played both 6 string and electric bass, and string bass in orchestras as well.
In 2009, the economy was down, and I just lived on savings, didn't attempt to find a job, and just stayed home and learned 6 string electric for the first time. In a year I sounded really good; "practicing every day for at least 20 minutes" was my personal rule, but it soon turned into a 2 hour session every time.

I forgot to mention, that's when I bought the 10 electric guitars, and hung them around the apartment.. ;-)"

I am a frustrated Bassist. But this live video of NAMM 3 years ago is one of my favorite music videos I've discovered this year, so I thought I'd post it and share with family. I had a teacher that was on this level, his name was Jim Simmons, well known in the Phoenix area in the 1980s. Ran a Jazz club in Tempe called Chuy's Choo Choo.

I only watched to check out the two black girls in the background. Otherwise its the same performance he's been doing for years now, right down to the songs. He really should come up with some new material. Bring a band with him or pair up with another musician at the show. Something.

I'm glad you are familiar with his "schtik".
Still, he's playing on a level that is very difficult and ATHLETIC! ;-)

I took lessons from a guy that could pretty much improvise at that level, with that amount of facility and timing, and it was pretty cool to watch him solo on any good funk or modern jazz tunes.

To truly IMPROVISE at this level, that's what separates the true gods, from the wanna-bees.

A good song for a good band you need, I know, it's a very good band

Life of a String man

@surfyogi This guy is unbelievable! He looks like a Navy seal and the bass is his weapon!! Blew me away! Thank you for posting this. 🎶🎶✌🏼

To play like that requires top fitness, daily exercise, millisecond reflexes and responses.
None of which I possess today but it is inspiring to have it back..

Wow, you know, it's actually true

Anybody can play, few listen.

I've been trying to learn the guitar for long and I'm not making any headway....
I think I'll have to give in more time and dedication like you said.....20 minutes a day.

By the way, that guy is really cool.
I hope one day I'll be able to play like him

That music put some warmth in me!!! The weather here is chilly!

SOMETIMES THE SIMPLEST RIFFS CAN BE THE BEST

How incredible this man I liked, brother you have won a new constant follower. Greetings from Venezuela continues to upload quality content.

Can This guy Do A Classic, From the Awesome 80's, like Axel F, & Power Of Love, From Back 2 the future, because i really like 80's Rock Music, like we Built this city on rock n roll, this funk fusion, & Mega mix Fusion is Nice, But Great Southern Land the song would sound Awesome if he played that, :-) :-) I like playing Drum's, but bass Guitar Rock's:-) :-), This Guy Is Awesome.

Glad you like, yes, he blows me away too, especially since I had never heard of him.
But it turns out there's 1000s of guys like this out there, but you never heard of them..
