Creating a song track with a high quality output requires plenty of work - you will need countless hours of practice before you can start recording your vocals, and EQ mixing and vocal adjustments are needed to give the song an oomph that you are looking for.

Below, we share several tips that may help you to create excellent vocals.

Use the Right Microphone

Do not skimp on the most important piece of equipment for vocal recording, your microphone. After all, a good soundtrack starts with a clear and crisp vocal recording before anything else.

Choosing the right microphone is the first stage to getting a high-quality vocals output.

Try different microphones to see which one works best for your recording session. Once you have settled on a microphone, you can then vary the microphone placement to change the recorded vocal tones and timbre.

Do not be afraid to experiment with the microphone distance and height until you can find the best position that can give you a vocal tone that fits well in your music mix!

Record Several Takes

Made a minor lyric mistake in your otherwise perfect vocal recording? You can always record several takes for your vocal tracks first.

These recordings can be edited and compiled into a single vocal track later on, and a compilation of cuts from different vocal recordings could produce a track that sounds much more amazing than the one with just a single take!

If you want your vocal track to sound original without many modifications, that is fine too; Just know that vocal track editing and compiling is an option for you.

Remove Noise

Watch out for clicks and any background noises in the vocal tracks. These are usually easy to spot between phrases and sections, but there may be some that are missed out after the vocal track compilations.

At times, clicks will be introduced into the vocal track after compilation, but you can get rid of these clicks by adding cross-fades lasting between around 5 or 10ms into the sections between compiled vocal tracks.

Make Use of Pitch-Correction Plug-ins

Thankfully, not all audio tracks will need autotuning, but where it is needed, you are going to need an excellent understanding of tunes, pitches and scales to use it properly.

You can use tools such as Antares Autotune, Celemony Melodyne or other autotune plug-ins to help you make a pop vocal sound exactly as you want it.

Expertise on these plug-ins can help you to determine when you should make a vocal track sound hyper-tuned, as well as when and how you should correct the pitches to sound like it has not been tuned at all.

Create Your Audio Mix Around the Vocals

While the acoustic instrument may sound good, you do not want your vocals to lose its presence amidst the background music and tunes.

Keep the background music at a suitable level to make sure that nothing drowns out the vocals or downplays it.

Once you have your vocal tracks ready, you can move on to define the background sound levels, adjustments and the like to match with your vocals.
